The $1 Million Dollar Vacuum, For Rich Clean Freaks Only

Luxury products is a strange category. There must be a market for it, as companies keep cranking out stuff like insanely tricked-out iPads and expensive (but ultimately kind of lame) mid-spec’ed smartphones. But at least statement gadgets like these serve a purpose — they’re visible signs of epic affluence for people who love showing off at the country club. (Hey, I didn’t say they serve a noble purpose.)

This one, however, baffles me: Why in the world would anyone spend a ton of money on something that mostly stays in a closet? I’m talking, of course, about the GoVacuum GV6272011. Plated in 24-karat gold and priced at $1 million dollars, this vacuum cleaner just doesn’t make sense. First off, for this money, you’d expect more than just gold plating. And you can’t exactly take it around town to show off to your trust-fund cohorts. But the most illogical thing about this is the fact that, if you have the funds to pick up one of these babies, you probably already have a crew of housekeepers on staff.

I suppose the rare clean-it-yourself millionaire types could roll up those Savile Row sleeves, take off those platinum cufflinks or diamond bracelets, and maneuver this lightweight, commercial-level vacuum around the mansion pretty easily. And hey, look: It’s on sale! The price was slashed by a whopping $1, bringing the cost down to a mere $999,999. So if you’re a super-rich-yet-thrifty clean freak, there’s no better time to have your manservant acquire one of these for you.

As for the rest of us, let’s unroll our eyes now and just be grateful that only 100 of these silly suckers are available.
